Skygate Identifying a precinct Space Claiming BNE Property, a division of Brisbane Airport Corporation, is responsible for guiding the transformation of developable land at Brisbane Airport. After working with BNE to coordinate a future vision atelier session, the Loa team was retained to create a unique identifier for the new precinct they were planning, Skygate. Read more ↓ Identifying a Precinct The new Skygate would be a mixed use precinct, servicing surrounding suburbs as well as the international and domestic airports. The identifier developed would need to be able to encompass and promote retail, service industries, hospitality and entertainment and leisure offerings. The precinct’s proximity to a major transit corridor was also a consideration. This made visibility on road signs was paramount, especially as the primary patrons would be commuters on their way to and from work. Building Awareness Extensive testing led to the creation of a bespoke logotype. With legibility at highspeeds as the primary goal, opportunities to suggest in-transit visits while building memorable features were developed. The flexible, robust logotype has been deployed across street signage, banners, wayfinding, websites and general outdoor campaigns. Gladstone Port Upgrade Informing Communities Good for Gladstone Gladstone Ports Corporation was undertaking the most significant expansion of the port’s capabilities since commercial activities began in the 1920s. Loa’s brief was to develop a branded campaign that would educate, inform and update throughout the project via digital and traditional media. Read more ↓ Out in the open Loa identified the need for transparency as a critical concern for all aspects of the campaign. Working with Gladstone Ports Corporation, a strategy that featured weekly community updates, educational fact sheets, newsletters, exhibition materials and a dedicated website featuring real time reporting was developed to keep the community informed. Simple, unpretentious and imagery that featured local areas were employed to ground the aesthetic in reality, and connect directly to residents. Communicating with clarity While the dredging project was a divisive issue with the local community, the educational basis of the campaign combined with its inclusive and open nature had a marked effect on community attitude. Attendance at Gladstone Ports Corporation hosted community events increased, and website visitation was high, especially for the real time water quality monitoring and downloadable fact sheets.
